Shirdi Railway Station

Receiving A Warm Welcome At The Shirdi Railway Station On A Trip!

I find train journeys to be exhausting at times.  There have been several instances in which I had to travel across the country for purposes related to my profession. And, these experiences have made me loathe the next time that I needed to catch a train for another assignment. But I should make this clear. It was not the actual trip from which I shied away. It was the next part of the journey, where you arrive at a Railway Station.

Carrying a lot of luggage on inter-city trips is a common thing and a problem may arise on how to get to a safe hotel along with this much of luggage. The amount one steps down from the train, a crowd of luggage-porters arrive in front of you. Each one competes with the other to take your baggage. This is serious, as at one time I faced a tense moment where three porters took one part of baggage each, and I was left with nothing!

Getting To Know The Special Characteristics Of Shirdi Railway Station

I had this same mindset as I travelled in the Jp Sur Special (09715) from Jaipur in Rajasthan to attend a family function at Shirdi in Maharashtra.  For this, I had to get down at the Shirdi Railway Station. It was located at a distance of merely 5 kilometres from the Holy Temple of Shri Sai Baba Samadhi. It was a small railway station lacking proper sanitation and proper shelters.  Yet the people were very helpful.

  • The station has two halls, one for the upper class and the other for the lower class.
  • There are no food stalls located in and anywhere near the railway station.
  • Fortunately, there were stalls where I could purchase some immediate snacks, bottles of water and packets of biscuits.
  • The station was very much crowded, particularly with hundreds of pilgrims who wished to visit the Big Temple in the locality.
  • I was being very patient as I had come here for an auspicious occasion. Otherwise, these factors were really getting on my nerves.
  • This is definitely not a station that you should visit with your family or on leisure trips with friends.
  • However, a good point is that the Temple trust provides free trains to take visitors from the Shirdi Railway Station to the Shri Sai Baba Samadhi
  • Perhaps the same Lord blessed me I was able to get a single porter who helped me carry my luggage until the Taxi Stand.

Not Much Change In Opinions of Railway Stations In India

I did not feel much difference or rather any difference at all in my resentment towards Railway Stations. Nevertheless, I was thankful that I had a safe journey to Shirdi and back home. There was no loss of property thanks to the strict security provided at the Railway Station.  For that, I am thankful to the Railway Station Authorities.
